With a dynamic career spanning over two decades in education as both a teacher and administrator, along with a stint in executive search and leadership consulting, Melissa brings a unique expertise to her role as Research Consultant at CarterBaldwin.

Melissa began her career as a 3rd grade teacher in the public school system before transitioning to technology roles at The Langley School in McLean, VA and Flint Hill School in Oakland, VA. A role at The Children’s School brought her to Atlanta, where she eventually rose to the position of Director of the Lower School and was responsible for identifying and recruiting faculty. This sparked her interest and spurred a transition to executive search.

Prior to joining CarterBaldwin, Melissa served as chief of staff for an Atlanta-based education consultancy and as a senior associate with a national executive search firm, partnering with independent schools including Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, Chicago Latin School, and William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia in their leadership searches.

A native of Southern California, Melissa relocated to rural Pennsylvania as a teenager and became a first-generation college graduate. She holds a BS in elementary education from Bloomsburg University (now Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania) and a Master of Education from George Mason University.

Melissa has visited all seven continents, 26 countries, and 32 U.S. states—often following her favorite band, The Head and The Heart. She also dedicates her time as a weekly facilitator for SMART Recovery’s Friends & Family program in Atlanta.
