Project Description

President Paul J. Maurer is pleased to announce that John Beaghan has accepted the invitation to serve as Montreat College’s next Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer.

John is an accomplished CFO with nearly four decades of experience in higher education. Prior to arriving at Montreat, he served 16 years at Oakland University as the Vice President for Finance and Administration, where he managed all aspects of the accounting and financial reporting functions, facilities, public safety, and human resources. While at Oakland, he spearheaded the effort to eliminate student fees resulting in significant tuition revenue growth, managed multiple auxiliary operations, oversaw a variety of capital improvement projects, and negotiated numerous public private partnerships leading to learning opportunities for students, cost containment, and incremental revenues.

“John brings deeply valuable experience and perspective to the college’s cabinet,” said Mauer. “Throughout his career, he has demonstrated exceptional strategic, financial and executive leadership. He possesses a wealth of academic and practical education, modeling wisdom over decades of service.”

A native of Michigan, John received his BBA from The University of Michigan, Dearborn in 1983. He went on to earn his MBA from Eastern Michigan University in 1988 and is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA).

“I look forward to joining the leadership team at Montreat College and sharing my expertise at an institution aligned with my personal beliefs and values,” Beaghan says.
