Following a nationwide search in partnership with CarterBaldwin, BARC Electric Cooperative’s board of directors has named William (Bill) Buchanan Chief Executive Officer of the Virginia-based cooperative.

Bill joins BARC from Northwestern REC where he was President and CEO. He brings more than 30 years of telecom, broadband, and cooperative leadership experience to the role, with a focus on strategic and financial planning and operations. He has served as president and board member of both the Illinois and Colorado rural telecommunications associations as well as the Western Telecommunications Alliance, serving on the transition committee during the merger of two regional associations.

Bill earned his MBA from Quantic School of Business and Technology and his Bachelor of General Studies from Western Illinois University. He also completed certification training from the Graduate Institute for Cooperative Leadership at University of Missouri, and Stanford University’s professional certification in Energy Innovation and Emerging Technologies.
