CarterBaldwin Executive Search is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Owen as General Counsel for the international nonprofit, Mercy Ships.
Paul comes to Mercy Ships from Equinor (formerly Statoil), the Norwegian state-owned energy company and one of the largest companies in the world. As Vice President, Legal International, Paul was the longest-serving executive on the company’s North American leadership team. Paul began his legal career in private practice at law firms in New Mexico before transitioning into oil and gas, where he helped shape policy and strategy for companies such as Unocal and Chevron, before serving over twelve years at Equinor.
At Mercy Ships, Paul will lead legal operations in support of the organization’s mission to bring free, critical healthcare to the world’s poorest. He will also partner with executive leadership to shape and execute Mercy Ships’ strategic and tactical initiatives as the organization deploys its newest vessel and the world’s largest civilian hospital ship, the Global Mercy, in 2021.
Born the son of American Peace Corps workers as they served in Venezuela, Paul grew up with a service-minded perspective and unique worldview. He received his JD from the University of New Mexico School of Law and his BA in Political Science and History from Texas Christian University.
