Project Description

CarterBaldwin Executive Search, together with Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA), announces the appointment of Dr. Phil Tobin as Director of the Physician Assistant (PA) Program and Dean of the School of Health Professions.

Tobin joins PBA from Touro University Nevada, where he was director of the School of Physician Assistant Studies for the past five years. Prior to Touro, Tobin directed the Mercer University Physician Assistant Program and served as faculty for six years in the physician assistant program at Harding University.

At PBA, Tobin will be responsible for developing a master’s degree program that will produce graduates to fill critical needs felt across the nation. The program is pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC) and by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.

PBA’s goal is to launch its first class of PA students in August 2023. Meanwhile, Tobin will develop the program, shepherd it through a lengthy accreditation process and hire faculty.

Dr. Duane Meeks, associate provost for strategic innovation, said Tobin was chosen for the new position after a national search. “He has been a PA since 1995, and he has infused his faith into his practice,” said Meeks. “Dr. Tobin sees the occupation not as just a career, but a way to serve people with the love of Jesus Christ. I think he’s a terrific fit for PBA.”

Tobin’s appointment will add to the already strong and growing mission in the healthcare arena, with nursing, pharmacy, and other healthcare-related degrees, and set the stage for continued, significant growth and innovation in health sciences in the coming years.

Tobin earned his Doctor of Health Sciences at Nova Southeastern University and his Master of Physician Assistant Studies and BS in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Nebraska. He is a past president of the Arkansas Academy of Physician Assistants and currently on the board of directors for Toxicology Excellence in Research Analysis (TERA) a nonprofit organization. Tobin retired from the Air Force as an officer with 22 years of service.
