Westminster Schools of Augusta is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Shawn Brower as its Head of School. Dr. Brower will be the 10th Head of School in Westminster’s history.

“The members of our board of trustees are very excited about the addition of Dr. Shawn Brower as our next Head of School,” said board chair John Weaver. “Dr. Brower brings a great depth of experience in helping Christian schools connect relationally with students, while encouraging them to pursue excellence in all areas of life. With our 50th anniversary approaching we look forward to introducing him to both the Westminster and greater Augusta communities.”

Brower is currently the Head of the Upper School and varsity men’s high school soccer coach at Briarwood Christian School in Birmingham, AL, where he is responsible for leading 82 faculty and staff and nearly 900 students in grades seven through 12. During Dr. Brower’s seven-year tenure, Briarwood has boasted an upper school retention rate of 98 percent, developed a system-wide graduate profile aimed at future readiness that aligns with school mission and vision, bolstered a robust academic program, and expanded fine arts and athletic programs.

Brower’s career in education began nearly 30 years ago teaching history, Bible, and physical education. He has a passion for developing young leaders, and much of his career has emphasized teaching leadership courses and developing leadership programs. Prior to his positions at Briarwood, Dr. Brower held various leadership roles at Jupiter Christian School in Jupiter, FL, Chattanooga Christian School in Chattanooga, TN, and Orangewood Christian School in Orlando, FL where he was the Head of School.

Brower earned his BA in history and secondary education from Geneva College, his masters in educational leadership from Covenant College, and his doctorate in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

In addition to his work in education, Dr. Brower has published three books: We Became Men: The Journey Into Manhood (2012), The Huddle: Becoming a Champion for Life (2013), and STAND TO: Finding Masculine Courage in a Stand Down World (2021).
